The story so far
Norton Sports were established in their present form in 1927, after being given permission to use Norton Park as their base. Prior to this there is some history of a club playing as Norton on a pitch behind the Plough Inn.
The clubs home is in Provender Lane where over the last few years the club have worked hard to make improvements to the facilities both on and off the playing field. A new clubhouse replaced the old battered wooden one a couple of years ago and work is still going on to finalise both the outside and inside, hopefully with the help of the Parish Council the exterior will be finalised this year.
The Clubs aim is to provide not only sporting involvement but to create a facility that is a pride to the community and one that can be utilised by the community. The sports ground itself is totally maintained by the sports club members, but the open space has been and will always be one to be enjoyed by the local children and older members of the parish.
Both the Football section and the Cricket section have benefited over the last 10-15 years following an almalgation with the Teynham & Lynsted football and cricket sections , following issues with their own facilities Currently the Football section competes in the Kent Premier League, unfortunately due to the success of the club the facilities at the club do not meet the strict FA criteria for that level, so home games cannot be played at Provender Lane, but the Club has introduced a Youth section , currently a Under 13 side and hopefully this will be expanded next season.
The Cricket section continue to play on Sunday’s in the Kent Village League, success on the field has been lacking over the past few years, but the dedication of the members I’m sure will see this reversed in the years to come.
